Who is the richest black man in the world? Who is Aliko Dangote?
This is inspiring content of how Aliko Dangote started his company and became the richest black man in the world.
In this article, Iām going to share with you, how this humble man rose from an humble beginning, to the richest black man in the world; and lessons you can learn from him as a blogger.
Dangote controls over 60% of Nigeriaās sugar market and 42% of the countryās cement market. Iām talking of a country of over 190 million citizens. Recently, Dangote was listed by Forbes as the richest black man with a network of $16.1 billion dollars
He was born on April 10, 1957 to the family of Muhammad and Hajia Dangote.
Dangote got his primary school before he proceeded to Egypt to obtain a degree. Heās a business magnate whose name sends fear to the minds of competitors. If youāre living in Africa or Nigeria, you should know what Iām talking about.
How He Started Dangote Group
Dangote found his passion while working under his Uncle. In fact, it was while working with Sani Dantata (his uncle) that he developed his business skills and confidence. He got a loan of about 3,500 in 1977 to start his own business and he was given a 6-month deadline to pay back; but he repaid in three months!
Dangote didnāt become successful by manufacturing, but his success actually came by trading in commodities such as salt, sugar, cotton millet, textile, and cocoa. One of Dangote business strategies while trading in the commodity market was to make the delivery of goods faster and cheaper than that of his competitors.
3 years later, Dangote ventured into manufacturing and started producing the same commodities he was importing.
Dangote now controls 13 other companies consisting of Dangote Sugar refinery, Dangote flour mills, Dangote transport, Blue star shipping, Dangote sacks, and Dansa foods.
In acknowledgement to his accomplishments, Dangote was awarded the best entrepreneur in 2007 and the most respected CEO of the year. In fact, that same year, he was conferred with the Commander of the order (CON) and office of the order of the Niger (OON).
Dangote strongly believes in Nigeria and he has shown it by providing over 50,000 jobs.
Hereās what he had to say according to a interview with a top Journalist:
āāNigeria is the best place to invest. 150 million people is no small numberāā.
Here Are 3 Blogging Lessons I Learned From Aliko Dangote
1. A Strong Mission
Aliko Dangote became a multi-billionaire because he had a strong motive and mission; and that mission is to provide the basic needs of 150 million Nigerians.
What do you want to be remembered for?
Are you a passionate blogger? Or, are you just doing blogging to make some quick cash?
You can never succeed in business without a strong motive or mission. Maybe your mission is to deliver goods faster than your competitors do; or maybe, your mission is to make your blogās product the best and the cheapest.
Create a strong mission statement and follow through it. Thatās how to become successful.
2. Purpose
Another lesson you can learn from Dangote is the life of purpose. According to one of his speech, he said,
āAfter my death, I want to be remembered as Africaās greatest industrialist.ā ā Dangote
What do you want to be remembered for after your extinction from this planet?
Are you living a life of purpose?
Dangote was able to become the richest black man in the world because, he had a life of purpose. Life without purpose is like a life with no future or direction.
āā The extent of your vision is the boundary of your accomplishmentsāā— Chris Oyakhilome
3. Persistence, Passion, Hard work, and Determination
You must imbibe these important traits if you want to become a successful blogger.
āāPassion is what drives me forward. Passion is what makes me go to bed at 2am and wake up at 6am.āāAliko Dangote
Rome wasnāt built in one day; neither does success in blogging comes overnight. It comes through hard work, determination, and persistence. If you donāt believe in any of the these qualities, donāt bother starting a blog; because you wonāt succeed.
Pro tip: Passion will help you endure the entrepreneurial challenges. Without hard work, and determination, donāt bother starting a blog.
Dangote was committed to his business for 30 years. It took him 30 years to build a multi-billion dollar firm. You can become bigger and greater than Dangote, if you endure entrepreneurial challenges.
Let me leave you with this quote by Robert Kiyosaki:
āThe Rich Dad Company was an overnight success but it took us many years to get there.ā— Robert Kiyosaki
